No Fomo: A Night Off

Nights in can induce way more envy than those spent out at clubs, parties or events – trust me! Sure, FOMO (fear of missing out) might creep in, along with several texts from friends, but I just remind myself that there is nothing more important than listening to my mind and body – and sometimes that means taking a break. Life can be busy and stressful with school, work and day-to-day obligations, sometimes it’s necessary to just unplug. treat yourself and not push yourself past your limits, be it social or physical! Here are a few of the things that make my nights in absolutely incredible. Tell me how you avoid the FOMO and enjoy your nights in! Chick Flick One of the best movies of all time, Cry Baby, never gets old. Classic Johnny Deep is at his most swoon-worthy and joined by Ricky Lake, Tracy Lords and Iggy Pop. The John waters 50's musical is way better than Grease. Snack Sometimes your body just craves a super comforting treat and on nights in I love snacking on popcorn. I like to portion my popcorn into a few dishes and add different toppings to each – a popcorn buffet if you will! Don’t worry these popcorn additions are just guilt-free enough to feel indulgent without undoing a day of healthy eating!

Spa Yes, I’m the girl in a facemask, eating popcorn and watching Cry Baby on a Friday night. But, if you’re going to pamper yourself, you might as well go for it. Face masks are rejuvenating and great for your skin. There are TONS of masks out there, even a few that you can make yourself – so listen to your skin, is it dry, oily, in need of some resurfacing etc. – and get the right one for you! Sip Brace yourselves; I’m not going to suggest sipping on a smoothie. Instead, on nights in, I opt for something cozy and warm. One of my go-to warm drinks is hot water with fresh lemon, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, honey, turmeric and ginger– it’s really tasty and bonus – it clarifies your system. Another one of my favorites is an iced matcha green tea latte. Mix matcha, water and almond milk and pour over ice. Phone Free This is one of the hardest things for me to do, but turning off my phone for an hour to two can do so much for my mental state. It’s like tuning out for a yoga class! No Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. No texts from friends asking about my whereabouts. Just me, chilling out and getting some space from the noise that usually occupies my time – I dare you to try it.
