One of my favorite things about New York City is that the latest workout trends usually originate within the 212 before spreading to the rest of the country. I feel lucky to get the jump on the up and coming workout fads, but even luckier to have the opportunity to share these new workouts with all of you in HBfit’s Sweat Series.
Last Friday, I took a few HBfitters for an unforgettable workout at RowHouse. Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, RowHouse classes are based on the fundamentals of traditional rowing – think ivy-leaguers – but, get a totally fun makeover by incorporating floor work and a great soundtrack.
Our day began with incredible chilled mint agave matcha shots by PANATEA. Matcha is one of the oldest superfoods out there and is known to provide energy, which I think we were all grateful for half-way into class! RowHouse co-owner and co-founder Debra, led our hour-long class and showed us why rowing is the next thing in fitness.
By the end of class, I was exhausted from using muscles that are often difficult to target in one workout– arms, back, glutes and core. After a workout like that, I was happy to munch on one of my favorite post-workout bars, made by Mediterra. These bars are super yummy and great for keeping up your energy and boosting metabolism.

Iced Matcha Tea - Mint Lime Edition
(Makes 1 serving: Note: "scoop" is about equivalent to a 1/2 teaspoon)
1 scoop of PANATEA's ceremonial grade matcha
1 cup of lukewarm water
2 scoops of organic lime juice
3 scoops of organic agave
4 fresh mint leaves
1 handful of ice cubes
Empty the scoop of matcha into a bowl
Press whisk down on matcha several times to break up powder
Add a couple oz. of the lukewarm water
Whisk or stir to make a green concentrate
Pour concentrate into a drink shaker
Add remainder of the lukewarm water + lime juice + agave + mint leaves
Pour over ice
