During the summer months, our calendars are filled with rooftop parties and poolside BBQs, but how do you resist the urge to indulge when you’re surrounded by not-so-healthy options? It’s all picking the right balance and we’ve gone through a five-course meal at a Summer BBQ to help show you the way!

This: Homemade Lemonade Not that: A Margarita Alcohol works fast at dehydrating the body so a sugary cocktail and a day in the sun might not be the best combination. Switch your margarita for a glass of homemade lemonade (with a splash of tequila- we won't tell!)

This: Mediterranean Cucumber Tomato Salad Not that: Deviled Eggs Deviled eggs are a tradition at most BBQs, but they can have up to 100 calories per half egg! Chop up a few cucumbers, tomatoes and even an avocado, spritz with some lemon juice and you’re all set for a low-calorie appetizer.

This: Grilled Chicken Skewers Not that: Hamburger with Cheese and Bacon As tempting as a double cheeseburger with bacon sounds, grilled chicken skewers can be just as tasty. Have fun making your own by adding bell peppers, onions and other vegetables for a personalized entrée!

This: Grilled Corn on the Cob Not that: Potato Salad Potato salad is the starchiest of BBQ sides and will leave you feeling bloated, so instead grab the corn on the cob for a healthy veggie option!

This: Watermelon Not that: Apple Pie Apple pie may be the All-American favorite, but you will definitely feel its sugary effects right after you consume it. Watermelon is delicious and made up of about 92% water so it’s sure to keep you hydrated until long after the party has ended. Photograph Courtesy: Mink Pink
