2015: a year exemplified by Caitlyn Jenner's transformation, Taylor Swift's big genre switch and Bieber's relationship drama with Selena Gomez—among many other things, of course. This year also brought us some seriously innovative creations, such as several groundbreaking new fitness trends. Whether you're considering what to add to your fitness regime for 2016 or reflecting on your fitness accomplishments of the past year, here are the best workout trends we saw in 2015.
Specialty Fitness Studios
Many specialty fitness studios opened their doors this past year, proving that highly-focused workouts are all the rage these days. From barre fitness classes to spin studios, trendy consumers are finding much more than a good workout when they slip on their trainers—they're finding a hobby they love too. One of this year's hottest trends naturally brought with it the growing popularity of Classpass, which allows you to experience different workouts in your home town as much as you like. If you're tired of the same-old, same-old, consider switching up your routine with one of these innovative and exciting classes.
High Intensity Interval Training (HITT) has been on the up-and-up over 2015, getting a lot of attention from celebs and influential people in the industry. Your trainer will explain to you that HIIT workouts are the best way to build oxygen capacity and boost your metabolism. These workouts require you to alternate high intensity workouts with medium intensity activities to help jumpstart your metabolism, burn fat and build your fitness level. Talk to your trainer for more advice or do some research on your own into how to challenge both your mind and body with HITT.
If you've ever wanted to hang with the likes of Cirque du Soleil performers, then surely you've ridden the wave of the aerial fitness this year. Aerial yoga—along with a multitude of other aerial fitness classes—involves performing exercises or stretches while suspended in fabric slings that hang from the ceiling. These types of classes give you a chance to 'hang' out and have fun while simultaneously getting a killer workout. Plus, there's often a focus on performance, giving you a goal to work toward.
Apparently it's time for us to hang up our gym membership and get real with a highly intensity, localized bootcamp training. In recent years, ladies have become aware that in order to get the body they want, they need to go big and start lifting weights. In 2015, even more women jumped on the bootcamp bandwagon. Gym memberships this year have hit the decline while bootcamps and boutique camps continue to be a growing fitness trend.
If you haven't yet, hop on board with these 2015 fitness trends and surely you'll be on the right track for meeting your New Year's resolutions—at least in the fitness department. If you're not sold yet, just wait. With 2016 just around the corner, there's sure to be an array of new fitness trends in store. Find something you love, challenge yourself and you'll be sure to start the new year off on the right foot.
