We met Geri Hirsch (at the gym of course) and immediately became addicted to her hustle. Not surprising considering Geri's built an entire career around sharing her own addictions to fashion, interiors and DIY projects through her lifestyle site Because I'm Addicted which she started in 2005. If having a super successful blog and being named as one of the OG bloggers in the industry wasn't enough, Geri went ahead and founded Leaf.TV, a shoppable how-to site, where you can learn to do anything from making your own chokers to arm workouts you can do anywhere. Geri keeps herself busy running her mini media empire, but what we admire most besides her #Girlboss ways is her dedication to healthy living which is why we made her our HBFIT #WCW this week. We can't wait for you to become just as addicted as we are... Tell us about your background — how did you get into the space? It's hard to believe but I started blogging in 2005 (!!!), and in 2012 I raised money to launch LEAFtv. They're both still going strong, and I've loved every moment of it. Was LEAF tv something that has been around the whole time or the natural progression of the brand? I came up with the idea for LEAF in college, but there wasn't really the right platform for it. Then boom!, Google acquired YouTube and that was that; my vision for short how-to videos was born. As a content creator, how do you keep reinventing your work? There are really two main drivers of reinvention: my personal interests and technology. What's fun about my job is that as my life and interests evolve, my content does too. In my early 20s I was really into fashion and DIY, in my mid-20s I went to culinary classes and began sharing recipes, then my wedding inspired its own fleet of posts, and for the last three years my focus has been wellness driven. Then, of course, technology plays a major role. When I started in 2005 it was all about wordy blog posts with large, gorgeous imagery. Then I launched LEAF and was tasked with creating stylized YouTube videos. Shortly after, the world went berserk over static squares aka Instagram, and now it's all about 10-seconds snaps. How do you keep the balance in your life amongst all of the craziness? I'll be the first to admit that finding balance can be really difficult and it requires heavily prioritizing, including putting myself at the top of my to-do list. I wake up early which affords me time for my growing wellness routine. This includes a combination of hot water with lemon, setting my intentions, skin-brushing, wellness shots, making/eating breakfast, meditating (TM), etc. Later in the day I work out to blow off steam, and at night I try to sneak in abhyanga and face masks before bed. I also approach sleep with great respect (thank you, Arianna Huffington!). I also limit what I like to call “extra-circular work activities” (sponsored lunches/dinners/events/launches/previews) to four events per week so that I have time to be with the people who matter most. How does LA inspire what you do? Do you ever see yourself elsewhere? I feel very fortunate to live in one of the most influential cities in the world. I reap great benefits from simply being in the mix. I'm constantly exposed to innovation in food, fitness, fashion, wellness, etc. which is reflected in my content. Plus, I get to work with and collaborate with some of the best thought leaders in the world. As for anywhere else, our dream is to buy a working farm or a vineyard, but until then... Go-to places to work out? How often do you workout? LA is the epicenter of crazy workouts, and I love trying them all! The Class by TT is incredible, Prevail has great boxing classes, Body by Simone is a fun dance class, Hot 8 gives a good sweaty stretch; I love ducking into SoulCycle classes (Angela Davis is my favorite instructor), and the list goes on and on. I also workout with a trainer (Chase Weber) three days a week and love refreshing early morning hikes with my husband. Go-to healthy digs in LA? Erewhon forever! Pretty stoked that they just opened up in Venice. Favorite snacks? I'm not a huge snacker, but when I graze it's usually nuts, fresh fruits, veggies, dark chocolate or green juices. Lately I've been really into Korean fermented snacks (I buy it from Dave's Gourmet Korean Food at the farmer's market). And while it's by no means a snack, I love a big glass of chlorophyll water at 2 p.m. to fight the slump. Favorite athleisure lines? KORAL, ALO Yoga, Splits 59 & Outdoor Voices. Must have beauty products? For springtime skincare I love Dr. Sebagh's Breakout Cleanser and Rose de Vie Serum, Kate Somerville Daily Deflector Moisturizer SPF 50 and By Terry Baume de Rose. Makeup wise, I'm really into Charlotte Tilbury's line. Who is inspiring you in the wellness/lifestyle space? Hannah—and it's not because this interview is on HBFIT.
