The stress of the election is still present, so it’s completely normal if your emotions are still raw from the shock of the results. Last week, we told you about the fitness studios that can help you wind down and the amazing organizations that are ready to take a stand, but we may need the extra help with finding our internal balance during this precarious time, and that’s okay! If you’re looking for a good read that will teach you how to relax in a stressful time, we’d recommend you check out Michelle Ebbin’s book The Touch Remedy. Michelle specializes in touch reflexology and acupressure techniques that are proven to relieve anxiety, and it feels like we need them now more than ever. We got in touch with Michelle Ebbin and she gave us some helpful tips with coping. She showed us how Touch Therapy can help relieve stress and relax the mind, as well as lessen depression and anxiety. Here are three important tips we learned:
- The center of the palm of your hand is the reflex area to the Solar Plexus, which is the nerve switchboard to the body. To ease anxiety, try pressing your thumb into your palm’s center for ten seconds, followed by small circles in the same area.
- If you place the fingertips of your three middle fingers about three finger-widths below the collarbone on either side of your chest, the pressure in this area can help relieve stress. Press firmly and make small circles with your fingers for 15 seconds. Them, drag your fingertips down to your chest. These are known as the “Letting Go” acupressure points.
- Place your middle fingers behind your ears at the base of the skull to tap into your “Peaceful Sleep” acupressure point. You’ll feel a slight depression and the spot will feel a bit tender. Press down firmly for 20 seconds, then release and repeat a few times.
